Mitsubishi 100% Electric Car showcased at the 25th World Gas Conference 2012, 4-8 June 2012
Kuala Lumpur, 1 June 2012 – Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM), the importer and distributor of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) in Malaysia, will showcase the Mitsubishi 100% electric car at the 25th World Gas Conference (WGC 2012) from 4-8 June 2012 (Monday-Friday) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Hosted by PETRONAS and organised by the International Gas Union (IGU), the conference also and exhibition will seek to address the developments in the energy sector, with a prime focus on the global gas industry. Themed “Gas: Sustaining Future Global Growth”, WGC2012 will showcase major achievements and milestones accomplished by the global gas industry.

WGC 2012 also known as the ‘Olympics of the Gas Industry’ will feature, amongst others, a Concept Village which will accommodate 5,000 industry professionals as well as 10,000 trade visitors.

MMM was the first to bring in a mass-produced Electric Vehicle (EV) to Malaysia. This showcase in WGC 2012 will be held to create awareness on zero-emission of electric vehicles as well as to share the viability and practicality of electric vehicles.

Producing 49 kW of power and 180 Nm of instant torque, the i-MiEV is powered solely by electricity, and can be recharged from a regular home socket. With a top speed of 130 km/h, the four-seater vehicle can run up to 150 kilometres* after charging eight hours at 230 volts. The i-MiEV also accelerates strongly and linearly for easy passing. *Measured by NEDC (New European Drive Cycle)

The Mitsubishi i-MiEV is based on the gasoline-powered i minicar, but instead of an internal combustion engine, its sole power source is a lithium-ion battery pack powering a permanent magnet electric motor. The 330V battery is located under the floor deck, while the electric motor is housed under the luggage compartment.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) brought the i-MiEV new-generation electric vehicle (EV) to market in Japan in July 2009. Since then, MMC has racked up an impressive record in promoting their full scale popularization. Although the i-MiEV has just been in the market for three years since its launch in Japan, MMC has been making steady progress in taking the i-MiEV to the world, following its introduction in European markets at the end of 2010 and the launched in North America at the end of 2011. To date, MMC have already produced more than 20,000 units.

The organizers of WGC 2012 has included various activities to be held during 4-8 June in conjunction with WGC2012, some of it includes the Kuala Lumpur Music and Lights Festival 2012 (5 June, 7-10pm) as well as an interactive display for young children between 5 and 17 years at PETROSAINS.
