It can get crazy when you are researching your new Mitsubishi and you see words like EBD, CVT, and AWC. No worries, we are here to help! Here is a little knowledge about terms and options for Mitsubishi vehicles.
- Driver's Knee Airbag
- The Driver's Knee Airbag deploys just below the steering column to help prevent injury by stabilizing the legs and lower body of the driver in certain frontal collisions. Mitsubishi was the first manufacturer to offer a Driver's Knee Airbag in a compact sedan. *Airbags are part of a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). To decrease the risk of injury from a deploying airbag, always wear your seat belt, sit upright in the middle of the seat, and do not lean against the door. Always place children 12 and under in the rear seat and use appropriate child restraints. Never place a rear-facing infant restraint in the front seat. See your owner's manual and instructions provided with your child restraint for additional information.
- Stabilizer Bar
- The stabilizer bar connects the components on the left and right sides of the suspension to make them function as one. This results in a vehicle that corners with more stability and helps keep all four tires in contact with the road through the turn.
- Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS)
- ABS helps to eliminate wheel lock-up during panic or emergency braking. Wheel lock-up can make braking, steering and acceleration almost impossible. The ABS system constantly monitors wheel speed. A brief reduction in braking pressure occurs when the system senses impending wheel lock-up. By "pulsing" the brakes, wheel rotation is modulated, helping to eliminate lock-up and maintain maximum driver control.
- Active Stability and Traction Control (ASC)
- A standard safety feature in most Mitsubishi vehicles, Active Stability and Traction Control helps drivers maintain control in adverse driving conditions and during emergency maneuvers. Employing a series of sensors, ASC constantly monitors available traction and alerts the control unit, which works with the vehicle's anti-lock braking system to counteract slipping or loss of control by applying the brakes on specific wheels to help keep the vehicle moving in the driver's intended direction.
- INVECS-II and III Adaptive Shift Control
- Mitsubishi's innovative INVECS Adaptive Shift Control software adapts transmission behavior to most driving conditions. Through advanced electronic programming, INVECS learns your driving habits and responds accordingly by altering shift points. The result is a car that knows how you like to drive and optimizes your experience behind the wheel.
- Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)
- A Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) operates on a pulley system that allows an infinite variability between the highest and lowest available ratios with no discrete steps. A CVT smoothly adapts to changing vehicle speeds and allows the engine to remain at its level of peak efficiency, which improves both fuel economy and exhaust emissions. Since a CVT does not "shift" gears, the customer also benefits from smoother performance and acceleration. Both the Mitsubishi Outlander and Lancer's four-cylinder MIVEC engines utilize CVT technology, to provide one of the smoothest, most efficient drivetrains available.
- Power Window with Auto Up & Anti-trapping
- In addition to regular power windows, the driver's side auto-up window closes completely with one quick touch of the button. This eliminates the need to hold the button up and allows drivers to keep both hands on the steering wheel. For added safety, a special sensor will automatically retract the window in the event an obstruction is detected while it is closing.
- Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
- Included as part of the available Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) uses electronic controls to optimize the applied braking force between front and rear wheels for different surface and vehicle load conditions. This feature ensures progressive, as well as more consistent braking pressure
- Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE)
- Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) is an engineering philosophy that has led to the design of unit-body chassis that are extra-fortified to withstand longitudinal impact. Unit-body chassis also include integrated energy absorbing crumple zones – reinforcements strategically applied at key body points and steel side-impact door beams. This range of passive safety features help protect occupants in extreme circumstances, all adding up to a vehicle that provides both peace of mind and a solid drive.
